Joe Somewhen duly earned "Public Enemy #1" in our forums from thousands of repair shortcuts submitted into evidence by the 99% of Airstreams with murky & distant pasts....

Those Airstream photos on the internet that fuel your fantasies will always capture the gleam of aluminum but rarely the blemishes and never the smell.

That pretty green color of your fresh water tank is NOT original!

Measure once, cut twice, especially on the curves.

In any Airstream there are 5 types of screw head types that have been mixed and matched by previous owners:
  • Slotted
  • Robertson
  • Phillips
  • Torx
  • ... and the most common "Stripped"!

The 1st Airstream you buy is never the right one.

Ace on my second Airstream but it's a keeper!

for the vintage owners, add to the list "latex filled Clutch Head"

Oh, yeah...and "Restored"="Patched" when advertising...

From my experience, we can elevate this to #1.

Unless you were the previous owner, of course, then it was done right!

Like breast implants, you will always wish you had gone just a little bit bigger, no matter what size airstream you get.

Amen - and I'd just like to elevate "no... it's never leaked," to #2.

When to pay close attention

When you hear
"all the hard stuff has been done already"
"she'll shine right up with a little buffing"
"nothing rusts, it's all aluminum"
"not sure if it works, it used to"
"you can get that on ebay"
and my very favorite......."oh yeah, they're so light it hardly affects the gas mileage at all"

Sometimes during restoration, "previous owner" can be spelled with four letters

Instead of 'Previous Owner' of an Airstream, shouldn't it be 'Previous Investor'???
