Jack Power and Light, too

2008 International 25 FB.

Jack raised last night to take off the anti sway bars. Got the bars off and went to lower the jack and it had no power. The light on the jack head didn't work either.

Had the power cord hooked up to the truck, didn't make a difference. Had plenty of battery power- all of the lighting in and on the trailer worked without trailer being hooked up to the truck.

Hand cranking that son of a gun is a pain in the butt but I don't want to have to. What would y'all guess- fuse? I'm hoping that's it and think it may be since the light doesn't work either. Where is the fuse located, also...

Sorry to ask the dumb questions but we're rookies and we're on the road.

I had the exact same problem. My jack had both a power wire and a ground wire, not grounded through the frame. The other end of the ground wire had pulled out of the terminal block. I was checking the power line without thinking about the ground. I was mystified for a while because when I checked the jack power line to the trailer frame it showed I had power to the jack. I finally found it when I traced the wires from the jack back to the power distribution circuits.

Also, my jack had an inline fuseholder in the wiring at the A-frame of the trailer. Look for a fuseholder and follow all jack wires back to where they ultimately connect.

clean the fuse and wires connecting the fuse, also check the fuse to make sure it has not blown. First day we had the AS the fuse blew, our previus rig had fuse connection issues that required frequent cleaning. Whatever the problem the electric jack beats a manual one

Check the in-line fuse holder and fuse. It should be below the motor head, and may be yellow. This is the wire (positive) that goes to the battery.

Also check to see if you have any corrosion on the battery terminal connection - if so, clean it off. Check to see if this works. If the light comes on but the motor doesn't energize then check the switch, and the connections. I recently found a poor/failed crimp on one of the connectors. Checking the up/down switch connectors will require you to unscrew the two screws and lift the cover. Do so carefully, as there isn't a lot of slack on some of the wires...

Exact same problem last week in the Tetons. Replaced 30amp in line fuse and all good.

Also - reversing the jack direction while the jack is still in motion is an excellent method to kill the fuse. Don't ask how I know this.

Could also be a bad ground connection. I have experienced that on two different trailers.

It can fool you because if you measure voltage at the jack you may find it measures fine but teh jac still may not work because the corroded ground cannot pass enough current to operate the motor.

Similarly, the jack light may function but not the jack motor - the light does not need nearly as much current to illuminate. In this situation you are likely to see the light go out when you try to operate the jack motor.

I had a problem there once too. I thought it was the fuse, but it was actually the wire connector had disconnected.

I had that same problem, the circuit breaker on the living room front wall had tripped. I pressed the little gizzy and all was good.
