Interior temp gauge not working...anyone seen one of these?

In my 1985 Limited I have a temp gauge in the bedroom over one of the beds (driver side)... I don't really know if it operates or controls anything. Has anyone ever seen one and where might I get a replacement since this one isn't working or is broken. I can see all the wiring in the closet and the outside sensor...

Well, I don't know anything about this particular gauge, but it says on it, "Outdoor Max and Min Temperatures".

This may mean that those two values are what it is meant to show.

Do you have the Owners Manual? If so, try looking it up and seeing what they say, perhaps. It might have nothing to do with actual temperature outside at all!

Nothing in the owners manual... It does measure temperature outdoor, I've followed the temp cable and the outdoor sensor is mounted outside under the As. There are a number of wires behind it in the closet but the I assumed those wires were for the heater thermostat... What puzzles me is the high and low settings...

I think you may be confusing yourself here. On a thermometer of this type there are often max and min indicators which are simply moved by the needle which indicates temp. By calling this a guage you are indicating a degree of functionality which may not be warranted. I dont think this controlls anything but simply gives information.

Well, here's a guess and a question:

Since you say that "There are a number of wires behind it in the closet", perhaps the use is to warn if the actual temperature goes outside of the upper or lower settings.

Can you take it out and have a closer look, and perhaps show us the wires, and the back? Maybe you can find a manufacturer's name and/or a reference number, something to Google for more info.

It's an interesting mystery, until someone can tell us what it really is...

That is an old mechanical thermometer. You use the little button on the front to reset the high and low indicators. No electricity involved. As the temperature rises and falls the indicator needle moves the high and low indicators. The little black "needle" is the reset arm that moves the indicators. It looks almost like it may be missing a needle or maybe it only indicates high and low, but not the current temperature. It is very similar to the ones used in the 1970's vintage too. I will have to go and look at mine.

Huh... I wonder where I can get a replacement? Here's the money question: what would be it's purpose? I would to see pics of your so I can compare the two... Thanks!
