I was only 13 years old when this baby rolled off the assembly line in 1963, she survived all those years only to be done in by a careless driver who says she didn't see my GMC Sierra 2500 HD diesel and my poor 19 1\2 foot bright silver Globy !

I'm heart broken, to say the least !

I didn't know where else to post it.

That is definitely heartbreaking to see.

Of course, the most important thing is that I hope that neither you nor any passengers were hurt in the accident. That's a lot of damage!

Yes, thank you, no one got hurt, the trooper and tow truck driver commended me for the accident not being much worse.

I don't know if the Globy can be fixed, it was all original inside but everything worked and I was waiting to retire to make her like new again. There is more damage on the other side of the truck.

I guess shortly, the long search will begin again.

Oh that's terrible. I don't know what I would do. My thoughts are with you. Hope no one was hurt in this incident. Did you suggest she get glasses cause she must really need them. Take care

She was not on the cell phone, as far as I know but she was talking with one of the passengers in her vehicle. The A frame looked o.k. but would have to be checked by an expert. It is not towable as the left rear wheel broke off in the accident, and that's when things really got hairy !

Her insurance company is trying to figure out what they are going to do about the airstream, only time will tell now.

Sorry to hear that and again no injuries is a good thing.

I believe that can be salvaged certainly by Colin.

With the shell off you should be able to fix. Fortunately most damage is in the floor, lower panel which is easier one to replace.
Worst case is weld up a new aluminum frame and tongue, replace floor (sure it was ready) and do what you were already going to do paid by someone else. It might be a blessing in disguise as the restoration would have been very costly and time consuming.

I feel your pain and I've never been one for the Pollyanna stuff. I know things are things but you can grow awfully fond of some of your things, especially I think, when they are vintage. Tough card to draw.

On the other hand...

Assuming the woman has good insurance and they treat you fairly it might be an opportunity to make things better than ever.

Very sorry to hear about this accident! It's something many of us think about and worry about all the time when we have our Airstreams out and about. But they were made to be used and enjoyed so it's a risk we accept - the good news is the next version of yours could be even better than this version ...

You might contact either or both of the repair people noted and see if they can give you "prior to accident" values to present to the insurance company as they will no doubt low ball you on value. Every time a trailer similar to mine is listed in the classifieds I print it and save it as a reference in case I need to argue insurance value someday.

I am so sorry, it stinks. Was it a merge type situation in NJ? I just recently had a. Conversation that people do not know the definition of merge. We almost got wiped out on 80 East in PA today, some guy driving like a bull out of a shoot, no regard to us coming up along side with no place for us to go, he had a merge.

Moving my tense shoulders to safety spot does not move the entire rig to safety.

Hopefully you are in this one "right" but also hopefully she had enough insurance to cover it!
The truck will be hard to replace so I think you would be best to start with your insurance company, bummer! but they may be of great help here.
Now for the Airstream...sounds like you found a great platform to start with so this really sucks! while it may be repairable not sure if I would entertain that...would you have started with this project if it was in this condition to start with?
I am nearing the end of my project and I know I looked for the right one before I poured my "blood, sweat & tears" into it.

Let her insurance company try to find you an equal or better replacement, your time has value. Also, every thing can be fixed on an Airstream, if it comes down to that because they can't find one for you. Having a full monty paid for by an insurance company isn't a bad thing.
