Carpentry is 100%. Well, OK, 99.9%, I still have to round the corners of the table, but it feels good to be this far along. I've started to look for an upholsterer who can execute the vision for the dinette. We want it to look like a 1950's club chair (second pic), something that might have been found in Ricky Ricardo's nightclub.

Is that a fixed pedestal? And how stable is it? Its looking fantastic! I'm almost at the carpentry stage.

Pedestal

It's a removable pedestal, and it's very stable. The table drops down and the cushions will rearrange into a bed, or the table can be removed altogether. I bought this one from West Marine

Insurance Question

How much does your insurance cost? Now that Lucy is almost finished I called to up my insurance from $10k to $30k, and the agent quoted $600 extra, or $750 a year. Is this about right or should I look elsewhere?

That seems high for insurance unless there are some extraneous circumstances. Maybe they consider a rebuild to be a great risk. Geography plays a part as well.

I pay about $650 for a value three times $30k. I use Progressive, FWIW.

For all the work you put into making such a beautiful trailer make sure it's insured properly!

Dishes and flatware

I scored a 44 piece set of vintage 1950's Melmac dishes and a set of vintage starburst flatware for Lucy on eBay. I really like both finds. When I was a kid we had the same starburst flatware at home. Lucy will be a combination of nostalgia and the best in modern conveniences.

I'm still painting doors, have I mentioned that I hate to paint? I'm using oil, and each door requires three coats on each side with a minimum of 24 hours drying time per coat. Soooooooo slowwwwwwwww but almost done

With that place setting I thought you had a 31 foot trailer

Can we make it 8-4-2? I'll keep the extra dishes and flatware somewhere safe and add a few wine glasses

Milestone!

Cabinets and paint are done, the doors and hardware are complete, and I even lined up the screws for my OCD followers Now I'm down to the punch list and three major purchases: refrigerator, upholstery, and polish. Our interior decorator is coming this weekend to pick dinette upholstery and laminate, drape material and bedding. I'm going to buy a 12" memory foam mattress and cut it myself. I have a punch list a mile long, but it's a list of minor items so it should go rather quickly. My biggest concern is how much the dinette is going to cost. We want to use real leather, and the idea of making it look like a 50's club chair is going to require a really good upholsterer. The laminate that we want to use on the dinette table is $250 a sheet

That looks great! I love the white paint, shiny aluminum and the natural wood. Yours is one of the threads that inspire me! Love your build

Good Job...we have trained you well...haha

The laminate that we want to use on the dinette table is $250 a sheet
At this point in the game, that's only a fraction of the cost....Sit on the porch or run with the "BIG DOGS"

The boomerang stuff was super popular about 10 years ago. Don't know of they still make it, so if you can find it at all, you will probably have to pay big bucks. But it is the right stuff so....

Check a local cabinet maker who might get a discount.

DDickey,
Your Airstream renovation. is a masterpiece! Just found your ongoing blog of your two year project. I have to admit the picture of the stunning cabinetry was what captured my attention which led me to reading your entire post over past two days. Thanks for sharing this excellent renovation. Since you already have purchased the Airstream dining accessories, I'll be tuned in to see the finished project and personal touches.
Hope to see Lucy down the road someday.
