How to re-attach (re-glue) cabinetry trim strips

We have several spots where the trim pieces on our cabinetry have separated from the cabinet. (See green tape in attached image) This looks like the same type of application where they glue strips to formica counter tops (which also seem to like to come loose).

My guess is that this was probably originally installed using a process that required heat. How do people re-apply these strips when they become partially detached? FYI, none have come complete off.

Thanks!

We have had similar issues in our previous 2002 (bought used) and our current 2014 (bought new) AS’s.
No need for heat treatment. Any commercially available wood glue will work. We have used both Elmer’s and gorilla glued with success. Use painters tape to hold in place until dry. Use sparingly to avoid drips.

I agree with az-streamer. I'm an old furniture guy. I like elmers wood glue for this kind of stuff. I'd get me a thin blade putty knife, some rags, maybe a couple toothpicks, and glue.

I always make sure to smear the glue in under the laminate real good, but not use too much, because it'll squeeze out when you push the laminate, trim, or whatever you got down.

Wipe everything real good after squeezing out the excess, then tape it tight if you can, like az-streamer said.

Use clamps and/or clamp boards if possible, and if a flat surface, placing weight on top to hold things down.

Laminate was originally glued with contact cement, but it would be hard to get that in the small gap that is there. I definitely wouldn't use Gorilla Glue as it expands when it hardens.

Airstream differs from the advice given above. I've used their method and it works fine:

Time to get the iron out, that looks like the ticket.

Thanks The Ice Man

I agree. The video The Ice Man posted definitely makes it clear. I suspected it might be a heat-activated glue but had not idea. Definitely going to try the iron first. Hope the wife doesn't see me with the iron, I don't want to give her any ideas.

FYI, I ended up using my heat gun (think handheld hair dryer for the garage) and a putty knife to apply the separating strips. Seems to have worked well.
