You are so correct. If anyone is travelling through Arkansas on I-40 near Russellville, Lake Dardanelle State Park has some of the nicest I have ever seen in a park.

There is no such thing. Every wet bath is a compromise. It will accomplish all functions adequately, but none of them well.

That being said, I'm all in favor of wet baths. Space is limited in many Airstreams, and extremely limited in an Interstate. The average person spends less time in the bathroom than any other living space, so it only makes sense that the floor space devoted to the bathroom be kept to the absolute minimum— thus leaving more space for the things you spend more time doing.

Lou always uses the AS shower. I in the interest of time when we are both getting ready will walk over the the CG showers. A stall shower with a good door was important to us.

I voted other. Our 16 Sport has the wet bath and we have never used the shower inside. We occasionally use it outside. It seems about 90% of the time the campgrounds where we stay have facilities and we don't mind using them. They are much larger and easier to move around in and we don't have to be concerned about excess humidity, dampness or leaks if we use the inside trailer shower. BTW we spent 115 nights in our Bambi in 2015. Good luck with your project.

Seems to me that a wet bath is the height of efficiency. You can sit on the throne, take a shower, brush your teeth, and shave all at the same time.

Saves time for more outdoor activities!

This is true, though I try to handle those tasks sequentially rather than concurrently. I don't have enough hands to handle all those tasks at once…

And one thing a wet bath does very poorly is when you want to conserve water by showering with a friend. Though it was fun to try…

We use a variety of camping venues, even Walmart and such when on the road. Use our own shower boon docking or Walmart, often at campgrounds. When at an rv resort using pool/hot tub/sauna, gym or recreational facilities we usually use the adjacent showers.

We are on the road for months at a time, some places have great shower facilities, some not so good, some none at all. So it depends on where we are happen to be.

I guess I'm the only one to vote never so far We have used it maybe twice in 13 years. Seems there is always a campground shower available somewhere. Using the shower in the trailer just fogs up the inside, everything needs to get wiped down when you're done, and fills up the blue boy.

We use the shower in the trailer 100%, whether boondocking or with hookups. I tote a lot of gray water in the blue boy. Though, we can go ~4 days in our 25 Safari before I have to replenish the fresh water or haul the gray. We use 8 to 10 gallons per day for 2 showers and dish washing.

I'm flexible, but my DW is not going to use the public facilities. If something happens to the shower in the trailer we will be camping at a motel.

I'm not a fan of a wet bath. Generally, they are too small for my big body.

Almost never use my shower because it is too hard to clean and gets mildew easy because it's like a closet. There are too many nooks and crannies that trap water and the factory covered the sidewall with textured vinyl that holds moisture. I always wear flip-flops in public showers. If building a shower make it so the walls can be squeegeed and the stall can dry fast! Maybe an exhaust fan that can be run while using the shower, humidity in the trailer is a real problem especially in rainy weather.

Now I am unsure if this thread is about using a shower in your Airstream, or the advantage/disadvantage of a separate shower vs. a wet bath.

I have had around 18 to 20 RV's over the years, most but not all Airstreams. Some have had wet baths, including my 75 GMC motorhome, and 4 or 5 of my Airstreams.

I have disliked, but still used every wet bath unit I have had. Wetting everything in the bathroom, toilet, sink, walls, and stuff on the counter is not fun, nor easy to prevent from becoming wet. Wiping down the walls, going into the bathroom an hour later with the floor still wet, etc are all things I hate about them.

My '74 Argosy 20' and my '14 FC 20' both have good separate showers and is one of the reasons I am much happier with them than I ever was with my '63 Bambi, my '67 Caravel, my 69 21' and my '71 Caravel, or my '75 GMC Motorhome, all which were wet bath units.

I just don't like wet bath RV's.

Putting it in perspective, it's a luxury compared to the sponge baths or heating water on the camp stove to pour over us in the VW Camper days. But then it was something of a luxury not to drag a 7300 lb trailer around the country for the personal luxuries, I'm not sure which is a better mode of seeing the country.

One of the things on my to-do list is to install an outside shower in the port side rear compartment. It will be next to the water heater where I can easily " T" into both the hot and cold water. I have had an outside shower before, and even have a transom shower on my boat. When boondocking with all the privacy I can shower off without filling the grey water tank.

We love our shower!! No getting your feet dirty coming back from the bath house! Plus I have scary hairdo in the morning that a quick hot shower will fix!!! We could not live without it! Ps we have the original tub/ shower that we refinished.

I've never had a wet bath setup. I use my shower in the trailer every day - sometimes the outside shower when there are no neighbors to be offended (and am thinking about a portable suction cup shower curtain contraption...). Such a luxury.

We tend to camp in campgrounds with electric, sometimes water, but not sewer at the campsites.

Mostly State and Corps of Engineer parks.

So we typically take our longer daily shower at the campground shower, and often will do a quick rinse in the AS before bed to rinse away bug spray and sunscreen before going to bed.

But even a quick navy shower will put about 4 gallons into the waste tank. We are working on remembering to use a dishpan so that we can save the water and use for toilet flushing to have it go into the black instead of the gray.

Once we get a blue boy tank this might change.

We like the AS shower a lot.

To conserve fresh water here's the Navy shower we learned in Navy boot camp (1966), and practiced at sea. Turn on the shower and wet down, turn off the shower and soap and scrub, turn on the water and rinse off. A gallon or less.
