All things considered, you may want to ponder driving the 730 miles from Salida CO to Tucson AZ and have the guy there do the whole job. The warranty is the same as going with a new unit, but I believe that the cost will be much less. As I said, they replaced the fridge in my friend's 5th wheel and he was most satisfied with the job. Because they rebuild all the cooling units, they meticulously inspect the welds (better QC than Dometic's factory). As well, they made my friend stay for a few hours to ensure that the unit worked properly.

I recall them setting up an appointment for the work to commence at 8:00am.

I think William H. And I were both thinking that if you fired it up on AC and/or propane, and the heating element ( or the flame) came up to temperature, then that would indicate that your control board is still okay.
It won't hurt anything, the reefer just won't cool since the coil is bad.

Good control board plus box in good shape would suggest that coil replacement would be logical. If the control board is bad and the box rusted, dented, ugly then maybe new is in order.

Well, a year later and I am still facing the same issue... I did fire up the fridge and saw that the circuit board worked. I will make some calls and see if it is possible to repair the existing coil (still on fridge). Failing that, I will have no choice but to replace the entire unit. To be continued....
