Help! Repair shop just not cutting it in NC

Hi all,

I'm not sure if anyone is going to be able to offer any advice, but I feel I have run out of options to this point.

I am so very close to having my converted Argosy brought into a mobile food trailer where I will be serving my own hydroponic produce out of.

I dropped off my trailer to the local repair shop in New Bern, NC and hoped they would be able to fix a small 12v issue I had where I could not get it to turn on.

They did not get to it for 6 weeks, even though they promised completion in 3, but I understand the nature of the business and things happen. However when they finally finished the 12v, I brought it home noticed the 120v no longer worked!

I brought it back to the same repair shop, told them of the issue. In a nut shell, they said this was my fault. I am not a wiring expert but I don't think this was an honest assessment since it worked when I gave it to them.

Regardless, I told them I had the health department coming for inspection the following week and just wanted my electric to work, even if I had to pay more to get it done. They promised to have the issue fixed by then, as I had already needed to reschedule with the HD 2x due to the delay in the original repair.

I call the day before the inspection and they hadn't even looked at it.

I ended up bringing my trailer back home for the inspection, incomplete as it was. I just refuse to go back there ever again after this experience.

However, I do need my trailer operational so I can begin my business but I just can't find anywhere locally to get what I need done. The internet (for once) has all led to dead ends.

Does anyone know of any good shop within 50-60 miles of New Bern, NC? The places I have seen online have told me they don't do electric or don't service trailers.

I'm just getting antsy now because every week that this doesn't get done, is another week my business makes 0 dollars.

Would appreciate any thoughts anyone has to offer.

There are very few RV shops that have knowledge of electrical issues. If you problem now is the 120 AC system just get an electrician to check it out.

Are you in NC or PA?

I would suggest contacting Out of Doors Mart in Colfax, NC to see if they would help.

Thanks Bill. About 3.5 hours from here, would like to see if I can do a bit closer, but if not, I will certainly give them a call.

Find a good Horse trailer place in your area...You are in a horse happy area. They work living areas for those trailers and are surprisingly good and they use the converters like we do. Out of doors mart is worth the trip.

Thanks for the tip Melody.

I did not consider all that much just calling an electrician. I had a neighbor who was an electrician look at my trailer awhile back in PA, and he did not know a thing about 12v, so I assumed most were the same.

I live in New Bern and am pretty handy with plumbing and electrical. Maybe I can help? I have a rally in Myrtle Beach next week but I have some time before then. Send me a PM.

Is Beck's still in business on the highway going to Havelock? They were once pretty good.
The next closest place is down half way between Moorehead City and Swansboro if they are still in business.
But any household electrician can address a 120VAC issue, as already suggested.
You have two totally segregated wiring systems in your Argosy. Your 12 VDC and your 120 VAC.
Any automotive tech can troubleshoot the former. Any household electrician, the latter.

I gotta think the 120 has to be something fairly simple. There really isn't much to it other than an glorified extension cord and a couple of breakers. Is none of it working? Was it before? How much have you modified for the food service stuff?

Not a very good electrician if they can't trouble shoot AC and DC

I would think so too. I just don't get why the 120 would be working, and then stop working after the 12v gets fixed??

I had 2 Trojan T-105's and an inverter installed so I can operate off-grid for 2-3 hours if need be.

I have sent a message across to Larry and have got some other great tips from everyone else. Thank you all, feeling much better now about getting this done!!
