Help!! does anyone know what this hooks up too....

This is drilled through the glass and comes out in the front upper cabinet. I'm not sure what it hooks up to. Does anyone know.

I believe it's either for a CB radio or more likely a mobile phone judging by the type of antenna on the window.

I am not certain, but it looks quite similar to an external antenna that I had for my Motoral Bag phone that dated back to 1991.

Could I convert it to a radio or something?

I am almost positive that is what they call a PL-259 connector and used mostly for CB radio antennas the little spiral antennas did not work very well but would be good for in and around the campground....SAM

Ok, I also have these.. I think this is the radio antenna as the radio works well. the plug I think is CB as it is bigger than the first pic i posted.. But I don't know where the CB one is hooked up to. Unless it also goes to the big one outside.... This antenna extends up about 5 feet...

That looks like it.. Now.. what is the other one... darn wires... I pulled the satellite dish off and got rid of those wires.... We camp with our young kids and don't need a tv...

The thing you are holding is for a CB or other two way radio. The antenna looks like it is am/fm only, as most CB antennas I have seen have additional coils wound around the antenna a couple of feet from the base.

i had a glass mount cell (bag era) phone ant. that looked like that. it was glued to the glass on each side. i can't recall what size end it had but i think it was smaller. it might possibly be for HAM radio use.

That is a cell phone cable used on early cell phones. There are 2 pictures shown 1 is original post and the other is a CB purman posted. The cable isnt ussually drilled threw the glass it is stuck on outside and then cable is on inside and it is picked up threw glass. The cell phone is clearly smaller, also used for TV signals sometimes also. I cant beleve they would drill glass since you said they did. Years ago at WBCCI ralleys people used to communicate with C B radios when functions started and to get news updates or weather updates

It looks very similar to the CB antenna that I installed on my truck several years ago. I did not drill through my back window. There is a plate that is glued to the interior, aligned to the glued on exterior antenna, and in some miraculous way the signal goes through the glass. It doesn't have a lot of range, but served my needs perfectly (I use past tense because my CB quit on me a few months ago and hasn't been replaced yet).

Thanks everyone, I will try to unstick it if it will come off... I just assumed it was drilled through, opps.. I won't be using a CB so I don't think I have much use for it... Just more wires to deal with... Trying to get it cleaned up and looking nice....

Purman, several have given their opinion of CB, ham radio and cell phone, but it is hard to tell because we can't judge the actual size. If it is smaller than a normal coax connector for a CB then it is neither CB or ham radio which except in unusual circumstances use the same size. If it is small than a PL259 then it is for an older bag phone which typically used a connector much like a PL359 but about 3/8 inch inside diameter rather than an inside diameter of 5/8 inch for a PL 259. It's not likely you could use it for a modern cell phone unless you had an external amplifier to boost the power in poor signal areas.

if it is a n older cell phone antenna it can be used for something else but you would have to replace the connector or use an adapter to a normal PL259, BNC connector (typically for scanners and amateur radio handi-talkies) or some other connector, however, you would also have to change the antenna on the outside since its length and either its enclosed loading coil or open coil are different for each band of frequencies that you night want to monitor.

A picture with something that identifies the size of the connector would help us all.

i'll have to go dig up my bag phone so i can sleep tonight!
the old bag phones had a much higher output than the current phones. if it IS glued to the glass as i suspect, it would most likely be for the old bad type phones as a CB would not work due to the frequency used. i'm about maxed out on my info here but some of the hams can give more details.

ok, i looked at my motorola bag phone. it uses the smaller connector and not the PL-259 larger connector. so now i will quietly walk away with my useless info.
