Our propane tank hose ends grow soapy beards. Label indicates that they were produced in 2000
.

I have learned that hoses should be replaced every 5 years. Tanks should be re-certified after 12 years so appears those might be due for replacement as well. Will have to check the date code.

Another cold night with 37F for a high today. Low sun angle creates a chilly lighting effect on the trailer.

In Colorado our propane tanks are "inspected" every 5 years. The inspection is for valve leaks, damage and rust. You do have a leaky hose. I've had trouble where the rubber hoses attach to the pressure reducing valve. The valve housing is aluminum, and the fitting on the hose is something special, which I can't remember at the moment.

Yep, winter is upon us. There is good skiing in the high country here. Here is a photo of a mountain from my shop window. It's cold and snowy on top of that mountain. I love the way the low winter sun lights it up in the afternoons.

Thank you for sharing the beautiful mountain photo, David. I felt compelled to check the conditions page at A-basin. I earned my ski legs in Breckenridge.

We have fog for Thanksgiving morning but expecting the rain to move in later. Mount Hood is forecast to get a good dump of snow over the next few days.

We have so many and varied scenic places in our country. Your photo is equally pretty. Oregon is one of my favorites. I too first skied Colorado mountains at Breckenridge. It was breathtaking compared to midwest skiing.

Hi Hein: Your demo of water sheeting off our Airstream trailers brings back a discussion I had on these Forums some years ago.

The 1966, 1967 and 1968 Airstream trailers were designed and built with new fangled windows. Curved glass that matches the curves of the trailer for that sleek, aerodynamic look. The 65 trailers had flat glass windows.

Well, the infamous Corning curved glass windows were prone to leaking in the rain. I was getting seriously ready to install drip caps over the windows on my 66 Trade Wind. These three years were the only years Airstream did not have a drip cap over the windows. Forum members highly advised against doing it.

Here is a photo of a mid sixties Airstream where the owner added drip caps to his trailer. I wasn't the only crazy guy around.

Your demonstration is the reason drip caps are important. They direct rain water away from less than perfect window seals.

Hein => From the photo I can't tell if the tanks (which appear white) are painted steel tanks or aluminum ones. If they are steel, go ahead and replace them; if they are Worthington aluminum tanks, have them revalved and recertified. I am still using the original Worthington tanks that came with my 1987 Excella (after multiple recertifications).

Hello and thank you for posting with good advice to replace the tanks. They look OK but appear to be from the mid 90's. After looking online at some tanks of questionable quality and origin, I have decided to contact our local propane distributor.


The propane system and appliances do appear to work well. We've since placed a 1500 watt ceramic heater in the trailer. To avoid schlepping the tanks down the road to the gas station every week or two.

Our Airstream survived the wet and snowy Oregon winter out by the barn. There were no leaks so happy to report that last summer's roof upgrades and resealing projects were successful. We need an office for our van supplies business so decided to move the trailer over to the warehouse for that purpose. I have made a few more repairs inside so will share those in some upcoming posts. Have a great summer!

Hi I saw that you guys make reinforcements for rooftop ACs on Airstreams. I have a 13’ 1981 vintage scamp and need to install a rooftop AC. Where are you located and how much to to the job? I want to put an AC over the escape hatch opening (13” X 20”). While road tripping the hatch lid got ripped off in the wind and I can’t find a replacement anywhere and I want to also install a rooftop AC.

After much thought we rebuilt the twin bases with cleats attached lengthwise to support a plywood bridge that will convert the bed into a king when needed [emoji4]. The top of the night stand is hinged and opens to almost the full length of the bed. Just ordered 3 twin xl memory foam mattresses that will be cut to fit with one being the filler pieces for the center. The plan is to cut them so they will be “pillows/bolsters” during the day.

Got this idea from a sprinter van video I saw on YouTube.
