Getting my '77 Overlander fully functional

Im currently full timing / working out of my airstream.

I bought it "as is" because the original owner hadnt used it in a few years and couldnt honestly tell me what worked and what didnt. I didnt really care since it was for a great price, in great shape, and i needed a roof over my head.

So I got a campsite, plugged it in, and was pretty surprised at the fact that almost everything worked great, not even a burnt out lightbulb.

The only problems are:
-When I hooked up to a water supply, water started pouring out of the hot water heater. I cant tell where its coming from, just that its from inside. What should I do?

-The AC fan works, but dosnt blow cold air. Can I use one of those AC recharge kits on it?

-two of the stabilizer jacks are broken on the drivers side, can i get a OE replacement anywhere?

That may just be the drain valve being open. Look carefully at the pipes and valves to see if you can tell where they go.

The piping to the hot water heater, if original, should be made of copper. Have a look and see if there has been any patches, kludged in repairs, or replumbing that is leaking. The drain valve mentioned above would be a fine place to start. Is the water coming out of the external panel, or out onto the floor inside? If outside, it is very likely the drain valve, or perhaps some expansion plug that blew during a freeze. Could also be that your water heater has rusted out internally, and just needs to be replaced.

The answer to your AC problem depends on the brand and age of your AC. The ancient AC that the trailer may be been built with is probably more easily refilled than a modern version, but it would require good old fashioned freon as opposed to the modern coolant you can buy at the auto parts store. If you pull the shroud off of the AC, you should at least be able to tell if the compressor is running--could be it is frozen and the whole unit needs to be replaced.

Stabilizer jacks that look pretty similar to the OE ones are available from many RV retail store. You might also try Out of Doors Mart or PPL's online catalogs.

When buying the BAL stabilizers, be sure you get the ones for an Airstream. The shaft from the stabilizer to the hex end you fit a handle or socket onto is longer, so that you can reach it more easily, since the stabilizer mounts a bit farther inboard on an Airstream than on an SOB.
