Furnace Board in AC bad and told no replacements 08 Safari 25 FB
Furnace stopped working on a trip back in January. This is the standard AC (duo therm/ Penguin I think ) Airstream put in most trailers for many years. Just had the trailer in for repairs at a great shop and was told that a circuit board in the topside unit is bad that lets the thermostat (lcd type in the bedroom) control the furnace. AC unit works, heat pump , fan work. And they said that when they short two wires together in the overhead unit the furnace fires up and works fine.
Evidently the main AC units are now discontinued and buying a replacement board isn't an option. Not available. Options are to replace the AC unit itself $$$, or for about $500 they could pull a new set of wires and put a thermostat somewhere for furnace only operation. Oh another option is to cut the two wires in the overhead unit and put an on/ off switch on the side of it.
So I'm reaching or here as I'm sure here is a board out there some where to replace this or a solution that is practical. I believe the unit is an 11,500 btu unit.

If you remove the control board on the interior air distribution box, you'll find 2 screw terminals on the backside of that board. You can directly wire a simple 2 wire elcheapo thermostats to those terminals. I believe this is where they said you could install a switch.

First, as of last year, Dometic still had replacement boards in stock for the now discontinued CCC-I 5-button thermostat. Also, have the tech tried to toggle the furnace 'DIP' switch a few times? It might simply not be recognizing the presence of the furnace.
I also don't agree with the conclusion from the shop's diagnosis, not the diagnosis itself. I believe that if you are willing to replace your thermostat with a new CCC-II unit, you can retro-fit the corresponding new board to your older A/C unit, assuming that they have checked with Dometic and are certain that there are no more replacement boards for the CCC-I available.
That would allow for the same wiring to be used thru-out by replacing the upper relay board and the wall t/stat. Your furnace will still operate on the new t/stat, along with your A/C unit.
I've done several of these 'upgrades' to older A/C units in the past, replacing the older 5-button CCC-I with the new CCC-II along with the corresponding control board for folks that wanted the newer technology.
If I was back in FL, I'm sure that I have your exact board laying around in my shop. Unfortunately, I won't be back there until Nov. 1.
Best to call Dometic's hotline with your model#, serial# and product number from your A/C unit and check the backward upgrade possibilities as I outlined above. There is also a remote chance that you can use their 'single zone thermostat' kit as well.

Furnace Unit Repair
Thanks Lewster for your knowledge on the situation. So I should be able to contact Dometic and order newer thermostat CCC-II and control board to work with existing unit? We had the trailer worked on in February so that must have been when the local service guys tried to find the board.
The furnace worked one cold night in January and hen didn't work the second night. Made it through using the heat pump.
By toggling the dip switch is that on the furnace or on the AC unit?
I'm willing to try the simple stuff before moving on to larger repairs. Fortunately it is summer in Houston and m not planning a trip to old places soon.
Is there a specific board/part number I should be asking about?
Thanks again

I looked at PPL' s website one they show a Duotherm adapter kit CC2 to CCC. Looks like a board for $99.95. They also show a Duotherm Dometic control board $110. 3109229-009
Or a Duotherm T-stat upgrade kit for over $500. Not sure if one of these is a correct option.
PPL is here in Houston at least if I need to order or drive over there.

Heater Board in Duotherm not working
So the Heater still doesn't show up on the thermostat control in my 08 Safari FB25. I'm told that if the old board isn't available to by a new controller that will work with the new board. Calling to check on those parts. Does anybody know where the board is located- is it inside the trailer on the overhead unit? Also anybody know exact model that would be in the 08 Safari's not sure if they put the 11,000 but or the 13,000 in this model?

Rich,
You probably have a 13,500BTU unit, but this can be readily determined from the model and product numbers. There should be a data plate visible on the base pan when the shroud is removed. There also should be a second one visible from inside when the air distribution box is removed.
You relay control board should be located beneath the outside shroud on the curb side of the unit.
It will be in a metal box with a cover held on be 2 - 5/16 hex head screws.
Be sure that ALL POWER IS OFF!!!!! and be very careful not to touch the contacts of the capacitors, as they have a nasty bite unless they have been drained of residual voltage.

Hi lew, odd that there isn't a specific model number on the unit.
The board in the unit is part number 50-981502-b the thermostat is the Duotherm 5 button model. PPL here in town can't identify this board to replace but they do have the newer ones in stock and newer thermostats
Any ideas? Seems like that's what I'm looking for

Yesterday i bought a new replacement board for the furnace here in Houston from PPL. The part number is different than the original but it is the same board. They had 5 in stock for anyone looking. Will post results when I can get up on the roof and replace.

Was an easy fix to replace the board. Just take a picture of it before removing.
