We have the Lowes / Home Depot paint extension poles that we've modified for flags. Been using 5 of them for at least a couple of years. Have flown flags in some pretty windy weather on them without any issues. We are purchasing additional paint roll extensions to be made into flag poles for our Argosy whose 5 pole holder should be arriving soon from Pole Ease.

What is required to modify them to use as flag poles?

BTW, 2air, I couldn't find the flag box on the Airstream.com web store. I searched under flag box and just under flag. Which was odd that I found the Airstream flag just perusing, but it didn't come up when I searched for "flag".

I called WBCCI headquarters and they have the WBCCI flag (3/5) for about $30 plus shipping.

Here's the poles at Lowes...the pic is kinda small...

6-12' Aluminum Extension Pole

I drilled two holes through one side of the poles and used some alum caribiners to mount the flags...I found some small carbiners at Harbor Freight for 99 cents each.

I cut off the threaded part at the top of the pole...there is a short steel rod inside the plastic there, that I also removed.

I used a hack saw to cut a 'notch' through the blue handle at the other end to remove it.

As mentioned above, I used a heat gun and mineral spirits to remove the paper labels.

These poles are about the exact same size as the holes in the Pole Ease, so you'll have to open them up slightly to get the poles to fit...I used a small drum sander mounted in my cordless drill to easily enlarge the holes.

I've bought some of my flags from:

http://www.flagsimporter.com/america...62f131e951105f

They are located in So-Calif area, and ship right away. They're 3x5 poly flags are $9.95 each, with big discounts if you buy multiple qty's of the same flag...they have a great selection so you can change your flag display as the occasion dictates...or just for fun!

Also 2air, can you post a photo of your flag box? I'd like to see one.

Also for anyone with one of the Pole Ease flag poles. Can you post some photos of the details of how the pole holder mounts to a tongue jack with an electric jack motor and maybe a close-up of the pole details for comparison to the paint roller extensions? Also, how dpes the Pole Ease flag mount, extension operate, top close, etc.

many of the side pix posted over the years include the flag boxes...

but they are subtle 2c...

http://www.airforums.com/forums/190833-post9.html

here are some focused pix with more info...

the boxes are 10 x 3.75 x 76 inches inside, with a gasket sealed latch...

curbside open/closed and streetside with stinky slinky tube for comparison...

since these boxes are more like 'trailer parts' than accessories,

i doubt they are available on the a/s store website.

but a call 2them should get the scoop; it may take a dealer's order to purchase them...

cheers

Thanks 2air. I'm going to be ordering a replacement bathroom fan motor soon so I'll ask the dealer about them then. I'd heard mention of them several times on this site and maybe even seen them once on the Airstream.com store site or when at JC but didn't give them a thought. I like the idea of a permanet storage space outside the living space to keep the flags and flag poles in. My wife didn't think she wanted to fly flags at our campsite when I mentioned it to her so not sure if I'll get set up or not...you know if momma ain't happy, ain't nobody happy!

it is recommended to use 2 standard muffler U bolts for the 3 or 5 flag pole mounts...

if u do the rust will be nasty, unless painted.

here is pictorial of changing out the rusty stuff for stainless...

told with 9,000 words...

cheers
