Favorite Mod Under $100

After using my new propane converted Yamaha 2000 on my recent journey West Virginia with two weeks dry camping on the Blue Ridge Parkway I decided I was not happy with the original conversion mount position. Mounted on the side it felt flimsy and not well protected. US Carb was present at the International. Low and behold they had their new mount on display. Picked one up and completed the repositioning to the intake end of the generator yesterday. It is much more secure and and solid feeling now. Mount is available direct from USC and is under $50.

Original position and new mount showing repositioning to the air intake end.

The only thing that I don't like about the Dominator hoses, is the fact that the connections are quite hard to latch and disconnect. There is just nothing to get a good grip on these connectors. After some thought, I bought two oil filter pliers from Harbor Freight for about $8.00 each. I tested them out today, and they work great.

Great idea!! I have those too & really struggle to get them apart! I'm off to the Freight!

I selected the GenConneX Direct propane only conversion for the two Honda 2000 watt tensest as the equipment is entirely inside the factory enclosure.

Positives and negatives for both versions I suppose. If I run out of propane I can burn gasoline or natural gas. I prefer having that option.

AWCHIEF - that front mount on the Yammys looks much better than the side mount. Looks like it's bracketed to protect from bumps in travel as well.

Thank you . One nice feature is that it is mounts using the existing screw holes for the air intake. I did increase the mount bolts from 5mm to 1/4 inch with blind clinch nuts to add more support. Only one small hole is required for the fuel hose. The kit comes with a thru grommet for a clean install of the hose.
I used black hole plugs from Lowes to fill the previously used side mount holes. Very clean and unobtrusive repair. If anyone buys a complete generator with conversion from US Carb this is the mount that they are now using. Another plus of the end mount is that the generator will now fit in a large Rubbermaid type container.

Hold out Hinges for bathroom mirror cabinet and above fridge. Motion sensor LED light battery operated in bathroom cabinet (source Lee Valley). Locking latch for door above microwave cabinet, secures while in transit. Relocated toilet paper hanger.

A wastebasket. Because what comes with the AS is pathetic.

Filling the fresh water tank

Never liked filling the fresh water tank.
Here's what I came up with for less than $5.00!
Works like a dream!
Funnel can be used alone for adding diluted bleach solution for sanitizing.

I installed two way switches in both our fantastic fans.

The switches (K9001-09) cost me around $13.00 each, I had the rest of the material handy so it was just 30 minutes or so of time.

Except for the wiring, does the switch swap into the same hole as the original on/off switch?

Yes. There's one extra wire you have to run, and you have to extend the wire from the motor, but otherwise it's fairly painless. I found a wiring diagram on the internet (I forget where actually...), so all I needed to do was cut some wire, crimp on the connectors and hook it up. On my 2016, the fan is already setup with a motor that goes both ways, it's just a switch issue. There are two poles on the old switch and four on the new switch.
