Fantastic fan not so fantastic

I installed a new Fantastic fan.I am able to manually open it and turn it on. The thermostat seems to work.
How do you make it open or close with the motor?
Or, does it only close with the motor if it senses rain?

There is a small black switch near the motor. That is for opening and closing.

On ours you have to push up on the manual opening knob to engage the motor.

The Fantastic fans changed the lid motor between 2014 and 2015 so it will not disengage from the gear train. Now you have to force the motor as well as the gear train to open and close the lid manually.

Since I do not like the Fantastic fan should we installed on the Classic to keep the rain out when the Fantastic lid is open, I switched the 23D to the Maxxfan 7000K and will do so in the Classic next spring.

Sounds defective. The new ones have been problematic. We received three mother boards before getting one to work.

All good advice.

It will only open or close with the motor if it sense rain OR if you turn it off by using the small on/off rocker switch.

Our preferred methodology for our 2010 models is to make sure the large speed switch is on one and that the small on/off rocker switch is set to "on." Then we rotate the thermostat knob towards the blue or cold and the fan will open and turn on. On the older models, you pulls the "geared" knob down to disengage it from auto function and push it up to engage auto function.

If all else fails, check with the mothership--the Fantastic Fan techs are friendly, knowledgable, and helpful.
