Fantastic fan discoloration help

Our 2009 Classic has had some "rusty" looking discoloration on the inside panel of both fantastic fans since we purchased it last year. My understanding is that it is due to adhesive overspray at the factory. Has anyone had any success in cleaning these panels? Haven't tried any thing yet.

Good question. I have noticed the same on mine. I tried some general purpose cleaner and it did not make a dint in it.

Yes, mine had it too. Believe it or not, I undressed the panel of all switches and used a Black and Decker mouse sander with fine sandpaper. Worked great! Just use light pressure and don't "burn" it. Came out snow white.

Here's an off-the-wall suggestion— Toothpaste! It's a polishing compound, after all, cheap and readily available.

And as a bonus it will make your fan smell minty fresh!

Thanks for the replies. I'm going to call JC to see if they have any suggestions. If it is due to their over spraying of glue, they must have some way of cleaning their equipment.

I don't think you'l find a chemical solution that won't destroy the plastic.
