F250 6.4L performance mods
I am thinking about some mods to my F250 6.4L tow vehicle to improve performance. Has anyone taken similar steps, and what results have you achieved? Things to consider?

Hi, this is not what you probably want to hear, but at the Ford dealer that I retired from, our diesel techs and Ford engineers have stated that aftermarket performance items are the biggest killer of these engines. I have personally seen some of them. Best to leave them stock.

I agree with RobertSunrus
I purchased a 2010 6.4 at the beginning of this year. I struggled with the decision mainly because of all the horror stories the 6.0 left. I did a lot of internet research and determined that after the Gen 1 the 6.4 was fairly bulletproof - as long as you did not mod it.
MPG? It sucks - but I did not purchase it to save a few bucks during a fill-up. I purchased the vehicle because it was half the price of a new 6.7 (an awesome vehicle) and the power and response of the twin turbo's.
I added on the 7 year/100,000 mile Ford warranty, and for a few grand put to bed all of my what if worries.
Keep it lubed, perform all of the scheduled maintenance, and put in all of the additives recommended by Ford and the 250 should last for years.

Trade it for a Duramax would be where I would start.
I know. I know.
Could not help myself.
Just a little fun.
We all have our favorites.
Best Regards,
JD

Mods should consist of getting rid of the DEF system and soot catchers. These things will make life simpler. If you live in a state that does not inspect for emissions then have at it. I would not put a chip in to get more HP.

This is why I love this forum, great suggestions from different perspectives, thanks all.
I keep my truck very regularly maintained, and I bought it to go the distance. One of the "comfort" factors being on the road is knowing I can rely on Ford dealerships if/as needed, particularly since I am not mechanically inclined.
Appreciate all the comments and recommendations... And to think I could have had a Duramax!
