Exterior Cleaning

Well I've read through a ton of posts and the topic of basic exterior cleaning is evidently buried somewhere that I have yet to discover.

My simple question is this -

For a 1975 Airstream what is the best soap cleaner (preferably not a commercial product I have to special order) that I can use in my pressure sprayer to clean the exterior of my airstream? I doubt that it has any wax on it to preserve.

If there is cleaner and wax that can be found at the local wallyworld I would not be opposed to that either.

Thanks

I used Mcguiar's Deep Crystal Car Wash for cars, boats, and trailers for many years. I would prefur to mix in a bucket of warm water and use a sponge but see no reason why it could not be used in a low pressure washer.

I found as post about the Simple Green "Extreme" that says it is safe for aluminum -

Extreme Simple GreenĀ® Aircraft & Precision Cleaner

Can't seem to find SG Extreme at a local store.

Don't use a pressure sprayer, regular hose spray. Pressure sprayer just begs for leaks.
Just about any car wash should be fine, they are mild detergents. Test a small area if you're not sure. Carnuba wax , turtle wax, nufinish have all been used successfully. Turtle wax and nufinish last a little longer.
Soft washing sponge to prevent/minimize scratches, rinse the sponge frequently.

Thumbs up

And the Joe'ster with the save.

I was just about to start the pressure spraying with some Turtle wax Wash and Wax I found at O'Rileys. Glad I read this first. Last thing I need is a leak in the cabin.

I have a microfiber mitt that has a telescoping handle for reaching out to the top. I'll use the two bucket method - one to wash with soap then one to rinse off the wash mitt between sudsing.

Its going to look like a different Airstream once I'm finished.

Well after a few hours the old gal is nice and washed. She may not be the prettiest but she's clean and paid for. And no leaks to boot!

Nice, you've got to be feeling pretty good about her. Hope you get her out for some use soon.

Oh yes - the flurry of activity is necessary because I have two destinations to hit this summer.

#1 - I am the Range Safety Officer for the local Cub Scouts and we have our summer camp for a week at Cave Without A Name. I will be taking the Tortuga de Plata to their campsite and setting up for a week and running the BB Gun range for all the wee ones. Best part is its all free since I am a volunteer.

#2 - Spending a week at Guadalupe State Park if it re-opens in time. We had some pretty bad flooding here last month so it is still closed at this time. My immediate family will be coming as well with their trailers and we are going to have a week of "family time".

Now that the outside is cleaned up I will turn my attention to the interior and get it all pretty.
