Next month I will be in Williams Arizona for 5 nights. Elevation 6700 feet so very cold in January. Two of those night will actually be in the Grand Canyon and the Airstream in Williams empty. I was thinking about a small portable electric heater running while I was gone to keep it from freezing. I thought that may be more efficient than using the propane heater. Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks
Electric works fine....for the lines and fixtures ABOVE the floor. The tanks and dump valves will not be protected without the propane furnace pumping warm air to the pans.
there is a post on the forum about winter at the canyon
When I winter camp, I drain and winterize. I use containers of water, a portipotti, and an oil filled electric radiator as backup. Is there somewhere with a shower you could use.
I was using a small electric heater a few weeks ago. The camper didn't get very warm, and the heater crapped out, perhaps it was overworked. The small heater worked well in 50 degree weather to take the chill out
Hi, In really cold weather, I only use my furnace to protect my tanks. During the day, if not freezing cold, you could use an oil filled heater. The heat from the oil filled heater will warm up the thermostat, not allowing the furnace to work.
