Dumb question about pop rivets
I need to put up 8 pairs of hold-downs for blinds. Each has two screws. Should I use my new pop riveter to put them in? Otherwise I’m counting on a lot of screws staying in with little support.

When you drill the holes, for either screws or rivets, be sure to use a positive stop on the drill bit to keep from having a whoops. I use a block of wood with a hole drilled through thick enough to allow about 1/2 inch of the bit to protrude. It is awful easy for a bit to catch on the Al and self feed.
If there is room for the riveter head I would use rivets.

Seems like you answered your own question. ;-)
Rivets are almost always better in an airstream. Vibration from travel will cause screws to back out over time. Rivets stay put. If your pop riveter head is to large to get close enough to the blinds, use a little dab of silicon or something similar with your screws to keep them from rattling loose. And as Bill said, don't overtighten the screw, or it won't hold and then you'll just have an extra hole!

Lisa, What are you using for blind hold downs?

I have Levalor cellular shades; as mounted, when the are pulled down, they hang straight and sway a good 2” away from the base of the window. By using the hold down, they flush up against the wall at the base creating better light blockage & privacy. Previous owner used Velcro and it was a sticky dirty mess that I have spent hours cleaning! They snug up when closed, during travel & are not a problem at all. Do you know of a better solution? I’d appreciate it.

I attached a small magnet to each end of the pull down and screwed a 1" washer to the wall. Pull down the blind and push it to the wall, the magnet grabs the washer and holds it to the wall.

Several years back on the forum, someone suggested mounting small magnets on the window frame to hold the mini blind base at the bottom securely. I found small square magnets with a screw hole in the center and mounted them on the frame. No more dangling mini blinds even after towing for several hours. Thanks to the op on that.

When drilling I would suggest placing a small (app. 1/4”) peace of copper tubing over the bit .
About a half inch shorter than the bit to stop and dint to the outside panels

When I use screws to anchor anything, rather than drill a hole, I use a ice pick taped gently with a hammer to create a hole that then has extra material in contact with the screw

Or put masking tape on the drill bit to mark depth
