Ducted Air Conditioning - A Discovery!

We've had our newly purchased 2016 Flying Cloud 27FB for about 3 months ... I think this is our fifth outing with it ... still very happy with it. But it seemed the single air conditioning unit just hasn't been enough ... not for Texas summer camping anyway. So we've been using a couple fans to keep the air moving throughout the Airstream.

Today I made a discovery while cleaning the return vents and the filters. The duct work at the filter returns wasn't secured to the interior roof. We've been loosing cold air into the roof ... it wasn't being directed into the ducts. So my "temporary" fix was to use masking tape and tape the duct work to the interior roof (hope the photos are good enough to reflect my "temporary" fix).

So if you have an Airstream with the ducted air and you're not satisfied with its performance ... you may want to remove your return vents and filters and see if your duct work is secured to the interior ceeling. It's been a significant improvement by simply taping the duct work to the interior roof. This is an item that will certainly be on our list of needed warranty items.

In the process of diagnosing the air loss, I placed the cell phone in the air ducts and took photos. I discovered what appears to be white clips (see last photo) ... but nothing is in the clips. I'm speculating these clips hold wiring in its place in the ceiling? Also an item for our warranty items.

Thanks for your post! I also found that the mesh filters trap a lot of dust etc... rather quickly and the unit puts out a lot more air if you clean them out regularly based on how much you use the system.

Hi ... we sold the Sport to an individual here in Austin ... and we purchased the Flying Cloud at Foley RV Center in Gulfport, MS.
