Dreaded scratch on the aluminum skin

Hi...I have a 2005, 25 ft safari SS and unfortunatley managed to rub it along the side of a corrigated pole. (makes a grown man want to cry!!)

The result was some scratches about 2 feet loong by 1/16 inch wide. I tried buffing it with protect all wax but it still has left noticable marks which seem to be etched into the aluminum.

Any suggestions how to restore it back to it's original shine???

Also a section of the rubber moulding was damaged. Is it easy to replace??

I can send an image if you needed.

Thanks, Bob Covey

Pictures would help, don`t know about the new aluminum,on the older models I`ve used very fine wet sandpaper to make them less noticeable.Dave

Sympathy Karma!

Same thing happened first trip out on my 2006 Safari FB SE. It was an oncoming car on a narrow mountain road however. I have a 10 inch long scratch and a small crease in the aluminum.

So. I got some painter's tape (the blue stuff) and some "new formula" clear coat in a spray can from Jackson Center. I masked the entire area leaving less than a 16th of an inch on either side of the scrape and very very lightly sprayed the damaged area - repeating two additional times.

It's still a bit visible, but it hasn't gotten any filoform. I notice it, I doubt if others do. I could put a flag decal over it since it's on the roadside front panel just behind the stone guard.

I also got a very minor scratch on the inside aluminum, which I treated the same way. It covered well, but then that one doesn't have a dent.

Hi, that's exactly what I did. Some dummy, on the way home with his brand new trailer rubbed against a car in a parking lot. [very bad feeling] I cleaned it up as good as possible and ordered, online, a flag decal to my specs.

Now that's an idea BOB. Kinda something similar happen here. Some dumb ass was loading a yard tractor on his flat bed trailer next to his Airstream without the flat being hooked up or chocked. When applying the brake on the tractor the trailer rolled forward and went left(has a dolly wheel on the jack) and the corner of the toolbox on the trailer hit the fridge access door and left a really nice scrap mark,an dent and paint on the door. Whats even worse BOB is this was rite here in my own driveway.
Now I have two choices wet sand and cover with a nice flag sticker like yours or replace the door. I think I like the flag idea.

You would think after 70 yrs I would know better and chock a loose trailer.

Thanks Bob
PS Do you remember where on line ya got the flag sticker.

Thanks Paula..I'll try your trick with some New Formula Clear Coat. I have a very small 3" scratch I'll use as a test spot. Man-oh-man..it really hurts to see some marks on the Safari, but something tells me there will be a few more to come as the miles build up!!

Bye the way...what the heck is filoform??

Regards, Bob
