Smile Door Lock

I am looking for any assistance I can get concerning a door lock for a 71 Trailwind . I have only been able to find a $ 600.00 version out there, are there any other options.

Thanks

What are you trying to achieve? Replace it, repair it.

This what I did. It's a $40 fix. Even if you re-skin the door, it's still cheaper than the old door latch

Can anyone recommend a cheaper alternative to the 70-79 $600+ replacement door lock? I'm in the same position as Silverfox, and hoping to come up with something much less expensive, even if not period correct. Looking at Inland RV, Vintage Trailer Supply, and Out-of-Doors Mart I only see the replacement. Thanks!

Thanks, can you tell me a little more about what you did. I am a novice to the RV world. I like your cost much better than the 600.00 dollar one. Again Thanks

If you could take a picture of your lock to be replaced it would be a help. I have a Airstream door lock, new, purchased on the Air Forums Classified and it was the wrong one for my AS. As it turns out I was not locking my lock as it was intended to be locked, so my lock is fine. My lock is the same as the lock in the picture of "rugjenkins", in post #3. Sent me a PM if this is the one you need!

Here are more pics.
1st take off door interior skin by drilling out the pop rivets.
2nd. Remove the old lock
3rd. Patch old hole with patch extending pass original hole by 1/2 inch. Buck rivet new patch.
4th. Cut new hole in patch for new lock. Install lock
5th. Replace interior skin

What's wrong with your door lock?
Lots of replacement parts available for those KT locks which where standard on trailers of that era.
I've work on many of those and they are relatively easy to repair.
I've even had broken pieces welded and chrome plated.

1967 - 24ft Tradewind - Bargman Door Lock

My original door lock on my '67 was giving me problems a couple years ago and I replaced it with a $500 Bargman unit that I found on Ebay. Very pricy!!! Over the past couple years, I've been locked out of my trailer twice due to the lock malfunctioning and I'm searching for other solutions now.

I'd like to keep with the vintage look, but am much more concerned about functionality and durability now. I'm taking it in to the local Airstream dealer in Seattle to see what options they can find.

Anyone know of a durable and reliable lock that's been used on other Airstreams over the years?
