Door lock

I was trying to find out if any one was having an issue with their door handle lock locking when door is shut.
I have had it at the dealer twice now for this problem since I was passing through and they can't seem to get it fixed.
I didn't know if airstream was having door handle issues with 2011 flying clouds.

This has been an ongoing problem. Airstream won't acknowledge it and all dealers can do is replace the latch assembly with a new one, which doesn't help unless the one you have is unusually bad.

Inland RV has a friction washer kit that helps with the problem but that does not completely fix it.

I had a weird situation last year where the handle would not open the door from the inside. I was locked in the trailer. I eventually got someone to open the door from the outside.

I took the whole unit apart and greased it and put it back together and it has continued working, but now I'm afraid it will happen again.

I have never heard of a documented failure of that "fix it kit".

If there is, please let me know.

Andy,

Is the "fix it kit" for the door handle locking? Or will it fix the issue I encountered where the handle just disconnected itself and would not unlock the door. Or are these actually the same issues? I certainly would like to prevent this from happening again.

Any light that you could shed on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Walt

The fix kit prevents the door from locking by itself, when you slam the door.

I had my door lock once after I installed the kit according to the instructions. I believe I posted something about it on Airforums when it happened. Instead of trying to tweak the lock any further, I leave a spare key where I can get to it.

Well I suppose there is a first for everything.

But as the wheels at Airstream said, tell those folks to quit slamming the door.

But, no complaints since the parts were provided "free".

Would someone be willing to post a pic of the lock that experiences this problem?

That's kinda the way I see it.

But, people should be aware of the possibility.

That lock is only on the recent years of Airstreams.

A 1979 lock is very different.
