Dometic a/c clanking

I used the search function but found nothing. Dometic ac started making a clanking sound when I turn it on. It will some time stop clanking and run smooth. I think I saw a thread on fixing this but cannot find it now that I need it. It is an old one but still cools just fine. Thanks for any help.

Might want to check under the shroud for a bad fan motor, bearing wear, or a loose object in the mechanism. Could be anything

I plan to do that, I do wish I could find that thread. If I remember correctly it was exactly the same problem I have. Thank you.

We got a lot of clanking noises as well once, turned out unbalanced fan due to mud dauber nest. Took off shroud, scrapped off and all working fine again...

I finally got time to take the shroud off. It was mud dauber nest in the squirrel cage, one on the shaft and two on the fan. Strange how sometimes it would run fine and sometimes it wouldn't. Cheapest fix yet.
