50's sure gets my vote, Don.

I'm way way behind, just having had enough time to get through the first few videos. Wanted to tell you how impressed I am with what you've done. It's all very clear and easy to understand. You've clearly spent many hours of prep for this.

Thanks again for doing this.

cheers,
steve

Update on 80's end cap. Another approach was used to get the 80's type end cap with the bulge in the midsection. The first design did not take this into consideration. I will be willing to share this with any forum member who would like this. Just post a request at airstreamsketchup@gmail.com

Would you be willing to email me the 4 views of your trailer?

I'll probably start designing the dinette on paper since I need that functional sooner than I'll be able to master sketchup curves. But the dinette is just the beginning. The center gaucho is already out and the bunks we'll be building will only be temporary.

Don,

I've been out of town for about a week and did not visit the forum. Just read through the posts on this thread to determine how far behind I am. Will go back now and use the search thread function to start learning. I also tried Sketchup about a year ago and was unable to do much. Thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge. Now let's see if I can learn!

Michael

More to come. Additional methods and techniques will be included in the next group of instructions. We started out with the simplified Airstream as an introduction to designing trailers using Google SketchUp. In the 80's+ trailer design we added a more complex end cap shape. So, if you are enjoying working with SketchUp and designing a trailer, look for more information in the 55 Flying Cloud instruction. The use of transparency in the designing process. The ability to hide and unhide elements of your design. And the beginning of DESIGNING YOUR INTERIOR. So stay tuned as we continue to explore SketchUp and Airstream Design.

Got a little side tracked after the "arc" course and went ahead and made the "70's" bulge. Take a look and let me know what you think.

and looking from the front:

Did the above one all by me self. As you can see, lots of little lines to delete after making that end cap. Still have to do the exterior, but almost there.

Don,
Thanks! I took your advice and starting building on my own. The model that I'll send you is in no means exact. As you can see on the picture, the width of the shell is not exacting to the floorplan laid out underneath. Trials and Errors

I figured out that on the very first lesson, when we made the first "rib", I didn't measure out the height to the dimensions of my trailer, so when I started adding all the pieces together, they fit, but not to actual dimensions. I plan to restart from scratch, so I can get an almost exact model make up. Hopefully version 2.0 will be a cleaner model as I learn the ins and outs of SketchUp.

Can't wait to start the interior, as that's what I really wanted to use this for.

Brian, I understand exactly what you have expressed. I've been there many times.
Your being brave and going ahead and trying is going to really help you understand the SketchUp Program. The time you are spending now will be well worth it when you get to the interior.

Started on a new model. Some small errors make for big gap. Take a look:

I forgot add an additional 3" on the top when I made the end cap, so now I have a 6" gap total when I combined the sides.......ughh

Good thing is, I have the walls pretty much lined up with where they should be. A fix to the interior end cap, make the exterior cap, using the 3 inch adjustment, then I should have a complete model again.

This is and instruction to show two possible fixes if you run into a gap similar to Brian's example.

Don, I am still with you but way behind. In lesson 1f, my front shell curb inside looks slightly different to yours. I will send you some pics for you to see what you think. Al
