The Arc tool is great tool in SketchUp. However it can be the real source for a head ache. So the next two lessons will deal with it use. 2a lesson will review the Arc and it's properties. The second lesson will be for practice with the Arc tool. I would like you to practice with this tool until you feel familiar with its use. With the more detailed designs of the actual trailers you do not want to be fighting this tool all the time.

Howdy Designers of Airstream projects using SketchUp to explore the recreation of your Airstreams. Chikusho who is one of out group has been working on a design for some time. Working with him has really helped me come to the place where I felt I could present series of instructions. The end cap design is the most challenging part of what we will do in working with SketchUp. I just helped him complete his end cap. It is for a newer trailer. I thought I'm use his design to create the next lessons. I'm just waiting for his permission to use his model. The biggest challenge of these next instructions will be to create the end cap to the standards you want and keep the model as simple for you computer as possible. In one of the first instructions here I created and email address for the groups use.
airstreamsketchup@gmail.com
If we all start using this I think it will work well so we can all communicate on the same wavelength. Also if you look in the first posts you will find a blog I created for us to share the models we are working on. To share models send them to the email for now. And I will post them on the blog with what ever text you also list.
Thanks Don

The End Cap adventure begins. This first example comes to us from "Chikusho" in Japan. He has been working on this design for a couple of months. This is an end cap from the 80's or 90's. I'm going to see if I can attach the file so you can download it and work along.
Don
Go to this site if you with to download a copy of this SketchUp design. So you can work along with the instruction.

instruction Solving Anomalies
Instruction 3d deals with the anomalies that can occur when using the SketchUp tools Arc and Push Pull. This important in the type of shape we are making in creating end caps.
Many other things can occur while you are working on your end cap. I've even found that I can work at making the same shape several times and never is the same. So be prepared. Ask if you are having problems.

instruction Solving Anomalies
This is the fourth video in this section. We are still looking at anomalies created by SketchUp and the designs we are attempting to create.

Final video in the 80-90's end cap series.
I'm considering working on the 50's series of trailer next. Unless I get votes for another series of years. Vote by making a post on the thread.

Hey, I'll chime in. I'm working on a 1971, 25' TradeWind.
I'll probably start designing the dinette on paper since I need that functional sooner than I'll be able to master sketchup curves. But the dinette is just the beginning. The center gaucho is already out and the bunks we'll be building will only be temporary.
