Damage to side of trailer

We have a 2005 AS which was in pristine condition until this past weekend. While returning from a camping trip last week, we stopped at a Cracker Barrel restaurant for breakfast, parking in the RV section behind the restaurant. When we came out we found that someone had hit the driver's side of the AS, leaving a deep crease and a three foot smear of white paint. We reported it to the restaurant and the local police, who initiated a "hit and run" investigation. Since it was on the side of an interstate highway with fairly large volume of traffic, I do not expect that anything will come of the investigation. My question is as to the cost of repair. The damage is in the middle of the aluminum panel which extends to most of the side of the trailer. Has anyone had such damage repaired, and, if so, about what did it cost?

So sad..

I don't have the answer to your question, but want to express my sadness for this to have happened to you and your trailer. I don't know how anyone could leave without contacting you (unless they didn't even realize). It'd be hard not to be bitter and angry. Good luck with your repairs.

Pictures might help. Generally you can expect at least $2k per panel to replace if necessary.

Sorry for your trouble, also sorry I can't answer your questions. That damage should be covered under the comprehensive part of your insurance policy, of course you'll have to pay the deductible. I don't know what part of the country you're in but if anywhere close to Jackson Center, the Airstream Factory repair center that would be the place to go. Many streamers go there regardless of the mileage if they have the time. Good Luck!!

If you have uninsured/underinsured coverage, your insurance company might cover it under that part of the policy. Good thing that you filed with the police, because the ins company will want to know it.

Yeah, if this is the whole side skin, which the description sounds like...I'd wager it'll be
$6K for a replacement.

You might ask CB if they had video from that day, I believe that the parking lots are under video surveillance.

Take it to a reputable AS dealer or back to AS mothership for repair.

Recently had the same panel replaced by Airstream Pacific Northwest in Seattle (did not use a local smaller AS dealer as I was concerned as to level of repair experience their staff had). Cost was approx. US$4500.00 for the one large panel. I say approx. as I am going by the original repair estimate and I ended up having them do some other work as well so total bill was much larger. They did not need to replace any of the side vents/doors or covers - they were able to reuse the old ones - cost will increase if any of those are also scratched/damaged.

They did a good job and you were not told it had been replaced you would not know it.

Our car was hit in a CB parking lot when parked in the back corner so we wouldn't get a ding. CN went through their video for us. Sure you thought of this, but wanted to mention.

Your RV insurance should cover it. This is exactly what it's for. If you have an AS repair center near you that you trust to make repairs, the Ins Co will work with you. We've had a serious claim and took ours to Oasis RV Center in Tucson... (in case you happen to be in this area). We could not tell anything had happened when the repairs were completed. It's no fun, for sure, but it can be resolved. Good luck!

You can take pictures and email them to the Airstream Service Center in Jackson Center, and they should be able to write you an estimate. When I had hail damage I emailed Chris Burch, the service advisor at JC., and he was able to provide an estimate which my insurance company honored. Sorry about your bad luck, but as others have said you probably will be very happy after the repairs are completed.

We just had the right hand lower panel that extends from the door to the rear cap seam replaced at Jackson Center. The quote they started under was $6300. I know there was some wrangling between Airstream and the insurance company so I'm not sure what the final bill came out to. I think it was pretty close to the original estimate. Took about two weeks and they did a beautiful job.
