Cracks in bathroom plastic

I posted this before, but didn't get any replies. I thought I would try to post this under a different section.

Any suggestions on how to fix the small superficial cracks that have developed in the walls of my bathroom? Is there a filler product out there or some other home remedy to erase them?

If they are ABS plastic, any plumbing store sells ABS cement used to glue plastic pipe together. You can tell if it's ABS as acetone will dissolve it. The bathroom sink and inside end caps in my 77 Argosy are ABS.

How about calling up the folks that repair fiberglass tubs/showers? They may at least be able to point you in the right direction.

The type of repair procedure necessary will depend on the cause of the cracks. ABS shrinks a bit with age and the rubber goes bad causing it to be more brittle. If the cracks are growing you need to stop them by drilling a small hole at the end of the crack. Then you may be able to cover and glue the sections back together with a bodied solvent based adhesive using the solvents used for ABS plumbing. You might also try a 2 part epoxy based adhesive. If the cracking is wide spread you might cover the whole area with epoxy impregnated fiberglass cloth. You would then sand it smooth and paint the whole area.

I mentioned this on a similar thread before ..... I used fiberglass cloth cut in narrow strips... wetted the strips out on a piece of cardboard, applied the strips, let it dry. Then used filler to smooth, sanded, primed and painted. I used this on the end caps and the shower. Worked great.
