Corrosion ???

Hi...we are 3rd owners of a 2011 28' CCD AS. The AS was originally sold/titled in California...and then sold to a gentleman here in WA (near a body of salt water) where it was stored outside. We aquired it in January 2012 and have stored it under cover (still in WA, not near water). We have taken it out to use for the summer and are noticing small white spots around the exterior. Reading through the forums I am assuming that this year did have a factory clear coat. We want to wash...and that corrosion we see ? Can it be removed ? What is the best product/method to prevent any damage to the finish? Thanks in advance!

Yes, it's corrosion but not the end of the world. The panels are factory treated at Alcoa and then Airstream cuts and drills them to build your trailer. The corrosion takes place at these cut edges (or surface scratches) and works it way under the clear finish. Search filiform corrosion in this forum and you will have several days reading about it, mostly complaining and a few who describe ways to treat or fix it as needed.

Skip over the complaints and learn about the treatment or fixing for best results. Don't get too aggressive about fixing and expose more edges to the problem. Fix and apply clear coat, and protect all exposed edges with frequent applications of CorrosionX or Boeshield protectants. Make it a part of regular inspection and maintenance that includes checking all sealants for damage/leaking.

Thumbs up Welcome Aboard....

Yes it is corrosion, filiform.

Not the end of the world as we know it.....but a real PITA>

Just type "corrosion" in the search bar and read all about it.

SR linked the War & Peace corrosion thread, prepare for an enlightening read.
