Compartment trim separating

We just purchased a preowned 2000 landyacht XL. I just recently noticed that the extrior molding that conceles the hinges for the bottom compartments on the passenger side had tried to be repaired by rivets(amazing how you notice new things all the time) I was having a problem closing the first hatch behind the dorr when I noticed this. I there a way to repair this without replacing the entire molding strip. I was thinking about some selftapping metal screws in to the inside wall framing good idea or really bad one. Would the framing be vertical framing members that could accept the screws if I could find the spacing?
Thanks for any input

a picture tells a thousand words,
when it comes to a particular fix like this one.
If you have to, ask a neighbor or friend to post pic(s)
This is a place where people have been there before,
and you'll get experienced advice.
