Cleaning sand off aluminum walls
Not really a restoration question but wondering if I could get some experienced advise on the best way to clean sand off the inside aluminum walls.
We had a window break in Lake Powell and a bunch of dry and moist sand blew inside. Everything was covered. I’ve cleaned most of it. Vacuumed the walls with a soft brush but there’s still sand on them.
When I tried wiping it down with a cotton rag and small amount of cleaning spray, it scratched the aluminum like sand paper.
Any advise? My only idea right now is to wipe down with a soaked micro fiber cloth. But I’d also like to know what cleaner if any is best for that. (Usually I use Lysol multi purpose surface cleaner).

Your problem is perplexing. I would have thought the light vacuuming with a soft brush to have done the trick. But when you said that failed, I suspected some kind of static charge was holding the grains of sand to the walls. But when you used a wet spray, I'd have thought that would have released the static bond. Sorry, I've got nothing.

This is going to be time consuming but I think I would roll up a towel at the base and then spray clean water on it starting at the top to loosen the sand. The aluminum is actually coated with a thin clear plastic like material which could be gently buffed if needed.

What about one of those super soft feather duster things to kinda sweep the sand down then vacuum up?

I would try one of the waterless cleaners they use for show cars. I use one called “Envy”. They sorta “float” the dirt off with a chemical layer under it. The Walbrize commonly used on Airstream exteriors May work also.

Cleaning sand
I would do this
Use our California duster to gently pick up the heavy stuff. Followed by a Automotive detail mist and light wipe with a fresh microfiber.
After that use Lemon Pledge with a soft Cotten towel or microfiber. Lemon Pledge is recommended by Airstream.

I'd try masking tape. It's known for picking up small particles without leaving adhesive behind. 🤔
