Burnt smell coming from Dometic fridge

I have a burnt smell coming from top of the fridge from under the counter top. Also the spot is hot to the touch. The fridge fan seems to take it away some time. Anyone have this problem??

Most helpful thread ever...

My fridge is doing this too. And the vent fan sounds like a lawn mower. Anybody here able to shed light on this?

I feel your pain

Several weeks ago I had the same smell, burned my fridge control box, fridge will not work, after repeated calls to DOMETIC and very little help, I have had to replace a 4 year old Fridge for a cost of $1,300.00.
I had an RM8505 small fridge in a 22FB Bambi. My control box behind the fridge DID NOT have a fuse in spite of what DOMETIC insists. Hopefully you have a box with s fuse, try replacement, should be a 5 amp old style glass fuse..http://www.airforums.com/forums/atta...1&d=1554754112. ( photo)…. Hope you have better luck than I....

Smoking Dometic

My dometic is working fine on electric. When I switched over to LP smoke started coming out of the roof vent for the fridge. I examined the fridge compartment and could not see where the smoke/ burning smell was coming from. Is the flue tube open on an end to discharge exhaust from burner? I'm wondering if something is lodged in the flue tube that is smoldering. Or is there another reason for the problem?

Burnt smell coming from Dometic fridge

The burner tube is open on both ends. Air comes in the bottom and the fumes exhaust out the top. Critters and insects tend to build nests inside the tube.

Could be a rodent nest or other ‘stuff’ like a wasp nest in the burner tube or in the area. If the flame is not adjusted right or obstructed, it could flare up and toast the cabinet it’s mounted in.

I use one of those flexible tube LCD display inspection cameras to look into areas that are hard to get to. I’d say you need to verify what’s burning and fix the problem ASAP because smoke is never a good thing inside a trailer...

This should go without saying, but since nobody else has mentioned it: if you have a burnt smell and a hot spot, you're at serious risk of a fire. Shut off that refrigerator immediately, and don't use it until it's fixed.

LCD with flex tube is a good idea. Thanks!

I have to replace mine too. No display. I think its that gray control board in the back. 12v in but no 12v out.
I have to wait for an appointment at an rv shop for late Nov.
What's the make and model for the new fridge?
