bumper storage lid came loose - tape failed

Cleaning up my Safari getting ready for my first summer trip. When I raised the bumper storage lid I noticed the hinge was loose on one side and the lid was flopping a bit. I had never noticed the hinge is attached to the lid with double sided tape. The tape's adhesive had failed. I guess not to bad for an 18 year old piece of tape. But, I was surprised that there are no mechanical fasteners, not one rivet! I searched the forum to see if I could find anyone else reporting this issue, but did not find anything.

If I had not noticed, odds are I would be looking for a replacement lid soon, since I'm going cross country this summer.

I added a rivet to both ends, problem solved temporarily. When I return I plan to replace the tape entirely and add several rivets.

My 2017 has just three rivets holding the hinge to the trailer. No tape, glue, or bubble gum, just three rivets.
Of course, the two pull and turn latches help secure the lid.

I think it's time for a more secure repair! I would start with new 3M double side tape and then drill a centered hole on each end of the hinge and add 1 rivet per side just to make it a more permanent fix. Ed

P.S. I know it is not the best look for your lid but to secure it I would do this or add a stainless bolt locknut to the ends of the hinge to secure the lid.
