Bird Poop Ate Through Clear Coat!

We were recently on a trip to Kansas and parked under a tree for a few days. When we went to leave, we noticed a rather large bird had plopped a poop near the top curve and ran down the side maybe 3-4 inches. (Must have been a large bird!) Anyway, we washed it off with warm soap and water (it came off pretty easily without any undo scrubbing). We just got home today and were washing the million and one Kansas bugs off the front of the trailer and when we got to the bird poop area, we noticed that the clear coat was GONE! Totally eaten through!

Is there something we can put on that spot to protect the aluminum and seal the edges of the clear coat that remains intact around that spot?

I feel your pain, living in Florida we deal with these large birds on a daily basis and they can cause havoc on any paint & other finishes. If it's a rather small area of clear-coat that's been eaten through by the acid in bird waste use clear nail polish to seal the area, if it's a large area consult a collision/paint expert for help. Also clear coat touch up paint is available at many auto supply stores. Usually nail polish is a temporary fix but it does keep the area sealed until a better fix can be done. Also, the nail polish can easily be removed with a solvent.

Bird poop can eat through clearcoat? Wow, I better watch for that from now on. I wonder if a good coat of wax can prevent that.

Wax helps but the acid in that stuff can cause a lot of damage. We left my wifes GMC Envoy sitting out for a month while our house was being built and bird droppings ate right through the chrome on her front bumper. My truck always sits out & I check it daily for droppings.

Apologies from Kansas. Never trust a Jayhawks! We're Wildcat fans for this reason.

I had the same issue and just bought a clear coat touchup pen to go over the area with the missing clear coat.

It doesn't look perfect but has provided protection and has not further deteriorated.

P&S told me to use spray enamel to cover the spots where clear coat had peeled. I have used it with success and it doesn't look much different than the clear coat. It stopped the progress of discoloration on my '89.

Thank you. It is reassuring to know that if we are vigilant about washing it off quickly in the future, we should be able to avoid future damage.
