Good one Wayne.
Many, if not most, Off the Grid Boondockers make errors of judgement.
There are some wonderful campsites in the Apache and Gila National Forests of central New Mexico. Just perfect. Flat. Grassy open area surrounded by pine trees.
Then... the 'dead lumber' that is 100+ feet tall beginning to lean, more each year, may not be noticed.
Before we set camp, the lean is studied. The distance from the base of the tree to the top is judged from where your... trailer is parked.
In some cases... how lucky do you feel that day or week? Not lucky. Very lucky... or hmmm so, so. These trees weigh as much, if not more than your trailer.
Just be aware of your situation in any Forest. The US and State Forest Service require any of their employees to have a Certificate before they can operate a chain saw. Which is smart. But... in my entire lifetime I have yet to see any Forest Service employee cutting out dead wood, trimming back brush and limbs that fall onto the roads.
If you have ever seen the results in Montana of a 'blow down' it is shocking to see the side of a mountain with the entire forest laid... flat.
Sure, I see in Utah piles of brush cut back to keep fires from starting along the Interstate. But I wonder who is actually doing that... as well. It is now bone dry... piled and waiting for something, for what?
Always be aware of your situation. Accidents happen for various reasons. Ignorance of your situation is number one on our list for the... unexpected, to happen.
