Interesting name for an airstream. She would have liked that. Gracie was a friend of our family--she spent her birthdays at my brother's house in Atlanta. One fine lady.

I don't think Ill of her for inventing COBOL either. It paid the bills around here for years. Even though I never was trained on it, it's a fairly easy computer language...

(Yes, I am in fact the world's oldest computer geek)

My husband and I met in Washington DC, and one day while at Washington National Airport I caught a glimpse of her. I immediately knew who she was in her vintage Navy Captain's uniform 😃 My first assignment was as a data processing liaison officer in the National Military Command Center in the Pentagon. I even learned a smidgen of COBOL.
We have both since retired from the Navy Reserve and thought the name more than fitting. Two grand old ladies 🌹

Reminds me of one of my favorite quotes;

A reporter asks Admiral Chesterfield Nimitz "Why do they refer to battleships as she?"
Nimitz, "Because it costs so much to keep them in paint and powder."

I had the honor of hearing her speak at a broadcasting convention back in the 80s. Wow, was I impressed!

Thanks 😃 We are getting excited. She can't be ready soon enough for us 😉 Our kids would like to do a family camping vacation together at Yellowstone this summer, so hopefully Gracie will be ready to roll by early July...but I don't control the timeline 😜

Well, it's been over a year the the guy we hired to renovate her has spent more of our time and money than we ever imagined ☹️ so we have spent the past week driving cross country to RESCUE Gracie. We will finally see her again this afternoon. She is still empty inside so I plan to build out the interior.

Just caught up on this thread...oh no...the dates of posts, the progress (or lack of), expectations not met. I truly hope it's all upward from here! If you guys make it to the Kids Rally this summer we can see if there's any small tasks we can do as a collective effort one day!

Wow, what a thoughtful offer. We are discussing the kids rally with our family. Looks like mid-June in Tennessee should be around 85. Is it humid there? We'll keep you posted [emoji2] on our progress.

On the weather... I've not actually been to Tennesee in June... but it's bound to be a little cooler and less humid than southeast Texas!!! That's our hope, anyway. Drive safe on the return trip!

We RESCUED Gracie yesterday!! [emoji322] We be driving home to finish her renovation ourselves. Might stop for help with the tanks in Phoenix. It'll be good to have her home. [emoji1303]

We left Gracie at RetroRV in Phoenix for four weeks so they could install black, fresh and two gray tanks, all drain pipe, vents and dump valves and all fresh water lines using green pipe (freeze proof polypropolene pipe from Germany). They installed a 6-gallon Atwood gas/electric water heater, PowerMax BD 1260C Boondocker (60 Amp 4-Stage Converter/Charger), fuse panel, circuit breakers, and two Lifeline 6v AGM batteries, plus 110v & 12v outlets, etc. LED ceiling fixtures were back ordered, so we'll install those ourselves when available, but they installed our LED sconces in the front living/dining area. Missing belly pan (partial) and floor insulation was replaced. Items installed by _______ [emoji51] guy in California were checked and repairs made. Finally, they leak checked Gracie and aside from a warped door (we'll fix that at home in Georgia) and a couple of minor window leaks (we purchased new window seals and crank operators to install at home) she is tight and should be good for rainy weather.

I was able to make some good progress before leaving it with Tim McNutt in Augusta. He's got it for 1.5 weeks to install propane system and appliances. I'll continue with the cabinets, bulkheads, and other interior design details when we get her home.
