Belly Question?

What is the black caulking used on belly pan seams?
Looks like roofing Tar.

Thanks,
Carolyn

Not sure about '87's, but I understand Airstreams didn't come with caulking in there underpans. This lets out any moisture (water) and dries out any moisture that does get down there.
Andy talked about this a few years ago.
A former owner (in Colorado) of my AS used silicone under the front to stop road spray (salt, water) from getting up in to the under pan - hard to remove.
If any were used, it would not be black roof tar.

Carolyn.

The belly pan was not caulked by Airstream.

A previous owner must have done that.

The underbelly MUST breathe, so remove as much of it as you can, so that the underbelly can breathe again.

The breathing was intentionly designed for several reasons.

Andy
