Bargman L77 core replacement

Hi all,
I ordered a new lock core for my L 77 but it doesn't want to lock in place. The old one came out fine and the brass pin lines up but the key won't rotate to make it lock in. Should I be installing with the handle locked or unlocked? Any other tricks? I believe the rotating pin is getting blocked and that's what is holding it up. Any help is appreciated.
thanks
Dan

Hey Dan
Any luck figuring it out? I have a L77 and I'm waiting for a lock core to come in from Vintage Trailer Supply. Have you tried contacting them for help?

Any update? I've got my old cylinder out and ready to install new one. I'd sure like to hear what you've done.

I went ahead and installed my cylinder,it took me a while to realize the key is removed in the horizontal position and not vertical like all other locks.

I was lucky my old cylinder came out using the new key.
Hope you figure yours out.

Well, the second one failed as well. I really don't have much faith in this core replacement from VTS. I bought a nos on ebay for the same money and am going to take it to a locksmith to install. There is something binding the cam as I try to turn the key so perhaps its operator error.

If the key won't rotate. You don't have the brass pin lined up with the hole in the handle.
Replacing the cylinder is only the LAST step in getting this mechanism to operate somewhat freely.
The entire mechanism should be removed from the door. Then cleaned and inspected. It should be lubricated and reassembled outside of the door. And checked for correct operation. Prior to putting it back in the door.
DO NOT remove the bolt assembly from the lock while in the door. You will lose the detent balls and springs. This unit should be disassembled on a clean work bench, where you can keep track of the small parts.

Do you have any parts of the L-77? I noticed you have 1964 trailer and if that's what this lock is for I think it should take the L100. I do see the L100 on ebay right now and from time to time the L-77 pops up there as well.

I just bought a 1961 tradewind. It's going to be a real challenge. Starting with the handle?!?

L-77 Handle and Lock Assembly

Here are some shots of a new handle installed in a lock assembly.

I also have put together written instructions on disassembling and cleaning this assembly.

Bargman L77 exterior door handle

I have a 1959 Trade Wind 24' trailer and the outside door handle was broken when I purchased it. I found that TG Twinkie may have some outside door handles. Also need lock bolt if anyone has one.

I have a temporary lock in place so I can use the trailer but want to get it back to original.

Let me know.

There are plenty of l-77s on the EBAY lists....problem for me is I need one that is for the non-suicide door. Thats been impossible for me to find. If you find one of those and don't need it PLEASE let me know. I have a 55 Safari which would love to give it a home.

I bought a 59 Overlander 2 years ago with the L77 mounted upside down, not knowing anything about the trailer I thought it was odd but didn't think much about til tgtwinkie mentioned it. I pulled the lock off the trailer and noticed that the locks are actually made to work either way, all you to do is swap some things around. I did need to fabricate one little part but you more than have that skill by the awesome work your doing.

So I have the L-77 you need but I was able to flip some internals around and make it work properly for my suicide door.
