Awning... Should lock side arm be loose? How to tighten?

The awning arm on the lock side is loose. I don't think it is supposed to have so much play in it? How does one go about tightening it? Ours is the bent arm awning. So I am thinking that the hex nut below it, is the place to start. Assuming the cover needs to come off to get to whatever.
Thanx all brilliant ones!!!!

Pictures would help. Personally, I'm not sure what you're talking about.
