The response you quoted is the OP. He or she is simply saying he spoke with someone at the shop that said not to use airforums for restoration advice.

One thing I will agree with is that a DIY restoration is not for everybody. But the problem is not the forums, its the seduction of the silver trailer and the misconception of 'how hard could it be to clean it up and polish it' vs the reality of what is usually involved. That said, it comes off as a bit of a hard sell to 'turn off the site'. Knowledge is power, and there is more here with regards to AS than in any other place.

My 72 Overlander was plasticoated by P&S about 15 years ago. Still has good shine, granted it's experiencing Airstream pattern baldness on top a little but that is to be expected. That is a picture of it in my avatar. When I called I got right through and spoke with a very helpful gentleman.

It was kind of endearing actually.
It's kind of like telling your doctor that you read something on the online.
They hate that stuff.
There is a certain amount of misinformation* posted here but much more valuable posted also.

RVs are no different than any hardware item sold used.

"Try to "establish a relationship" with someone who is selling you a product", sounds like advice that I would expect from someone who makes a living selling used products.

If I buy a used product, I seek out advice from informed third parties, not the individual selling said product.

The number on the pre-restoration photo was my fault . . . can't stand heights so I had my eyes closed while trying to place the number and managed to attach the 3 backwards making it look more like an "E". I was going to change it after the 1998 WBCCI International Rally in Boise, ID . . . but friends in the Vintage Airstream Club encouraged me to leave it that way as it made my Overlander easy to identify.

I know. I meant it that way.

The impression given, I thought, and maybe incorrectly so, was that the OP had never heard of P&S and that P&S's website did not give adequate information about what P&S does.

As it turns out, there was a lot of background info that was apparently discussed outside of the thread that I was not aware of before making my first reply in this thread.

Still Confused

.... which is my natural state - about what is being asked.

But I had some work done by P&S on my trailer a few years ago. It was done right, done on time, and was less than quoted.

So I went back this fall and had more work done. This took a while due to hold-up on new parts, but it was done right and was just as quoted.

I am very impressed with their knowledge of Airstreams and their abilities. I've seen quite a lot of work coming out of their shop (other folks' coaches), and everything I've seen has been first rate.

IMHO, the Ruth boys are the real deal. AND they are nice people.

Here are some pictures of an early 90's Airstream that was refinished by P & S. I took these pictures at a local campground. I can't find the before pictures, but P & S took a heavily oxidized trailer which had some damaged panels and with then current new graphics, awnings and wheels made this trailer look like a current model (these pictures were taken in 2001 or 2002).
