Aluminum Double Step Brace
Now that I've lifted my 30' Classic I see where I'll be using the second step of the aluminum fold out steps more often. I've always been leery of this design and have found many, many posts online how others have approached the problem. The other day I was on the Out of Doors Mart website and spotted a $40 brace that appears to address this issue simply but unfortunately they were out of stock.
Since there was nothing good on TV this afternoon I picked up some 1/2" square steel tubing at HD and then cut a 10" piece of scrap conduit and an 8" piece of scrap 3/4" steel angle. A couple of welds, some old paint and primer on hand and I knocked this out for about $10.
Seems to work pretty well and the steps feel solid. I can't vouch if this is a good idea or not until I field test it on a week-long camping trip so try this at your own risk.
