Airstream wiring

Hello, all! I just got a gutted 1969 Airstream International. My fiance & I are doing a complete renovation on this baby. We have no experience at all but are determined to make her glorious again. We need all the help we can get. She has some rear end damage & that will have to be fixed. Right now we have the inside skins off & the old insulation out. We are looking at updating all the wiring. Can any of you recommend a book or website that can help us?? We don't have a lot of money & can't hire anyone. This forum will be our saving grace. And when you think about it, there's no better resource than people who have already gone through it!! All help will be appreciated more than you know.

We have the manual but I don't know if the diagram is still viable as far as code goes.

Is the wiring rotted or damaged? Is it aluminum?

If not, you may be better of leaving it and just changing the stuff it's attached to.

Well, inside the wiring appears to be a paper material. It looks pretty old & is cracking in spots. It has been disconnected & doesn't look like it has been used in many years. Like maybe someone just ran an extension cord to get power.

Here's great thread to start on. I really like the idea of running PVC conduit instead of just running the wires through the aluminum.

Keep looking for wiring diagrams, and do NOT go with a smaller size wire for ANYthing!

How about some pictures? Now I'm curious.

Here are two good books, both available from Amazon, among other places:

Managing 12 Volts, by Harold Barre

RV Electrical Systems, by Bill and Jan Moeller
