I have found that if it is not too deep (if i cant feel the depression when I pass my nail over the scratch) I can buff out the scratch with my buffer on slow and with VERY fine buffing paste.

I would take to the factory for repair. Buffing aluminum is like where do you stop?
just my 2 cents

The Aluminum that is now used by Airstream on their new trailers has a Alcoa mill applied coating. It is not separately "Plasticoated" after assembly. You need to be very careful not to buff through the coating when you attempt to buff out a scratch.

Scratch repair on vintage airstream (no clear coat)
I’m stripping my 1973 Argosy, and plan on painting it, except for a possible stripe down the sides, and the door, and trim around all the windows. The aluminum is very scratched from my improper paint removing. I know the whole trailer can never be like an Airstream, but would like to have a few mirror finish parts. How do I attempt to remove (or lessen) the scratches?

my experience is that scratches are difficult to impossible to remove from an Airstream. However, you can hide the scratches by wiping the area with a rag with WD40 on it. That will last months. Then re-do. Its better than the risk involved in trying to buff something out and making the problem bigger, IMO.
