A/C shroud attachment

OK, i just got a new shroud for my old Coleman Mach3 TSR AC. I removed the old cap/nuts that held, of course they broke off! I see they are threaded bolts coming from inside the unit. Can I use self taping bolts with a large washer or do I need to undo the unit sheet metal to install a bolt from the underside? MPJ

I think that would work. I would mark the location and install the bolts without the shroud. Once that is done you can turn them out and then install the shroud without the chance of damaging the shroud while the bolts are selfdrilling.
