'72 Armstrong AC help needed in New Orleans area

Does anyone know of or can recommend a 'seasoned' a/c person or company?
We are in the New Orleans area.
Our a/c works good and is very cold but it needs to have a check up. We can run it for many hours and then it will slow down. If we shut it off for awhile and turn it back on, it will be fine for many more hours.
I called Foley Rv in Gulfport, but they haven't worked on too many OLD a/c units yet.
We have cleaned the fins (i think that's the name) and the inside drip tray and the hose that goes between the wall to the outside)

Thank you
Jane

He doesn't do repairs for others, AFAIK, but sure knows all the ins and out of the old Armstrong AC units. He tore his original one apart, upped the output, and added the 'heat pump' feature to it. His user name is jmpratt

Click here for his thread on that project.

I would think he has an idea where to get parts, and perhaps service.

Another user to talk to about that unit could be Lewster. He is active in service and may have some ideas for you.

I haven't needed any RV air conditioning work done (yet) let alone on a 40-year-old unit, so my 2˘ worth may have to be devalued even further, but being in the New Orleans area myself, I feel compelled to try.

Question: Since you're in Hammond, have you tried your local Camping World? I know they dislike working on Airstreams as a rule, but it can't hurt to ask them.

If you get no help from Camping World, you might also try Bents RV on Airline Highway in Metairie.

If neither of those options pan out, you might expand your search to places that handle boat a/c systems. There are a lot more boats than RVs in southeast Louisiana, so it stands to reason there will be more places that handle boat a/c than RV a/c.
