2017 Flying Cloud 30 ' Hub Mount / Stud Mount question
I have a new Dexter Torflex Axle and would like to put some aluminum 2017 rims on mine. I found a set and have been back and forth with seller measuring / pics.
The offset is same as my steel rims, bolt pattern is the same but the center bore is larger on the 2017 FC Aluminum rims.
I can see clearly that my steel wheels are hub mount as the pilot size is exactly the same as wheel center bore hole. The Dexter hub appears it would work as it has a large flat area at each stud.
My questions is are the 2017 rims stud mount or hub mount (larger hub diameter) or does it matter?
It appears (by pictures we've swapped) the FC rims have a 4.25 center hole. My Dexter axle is about 3.5".
I know if they are stud mount you'll need the proper lug nuts to match angle of wheel stud mounting hole.
I'm wading out of my depth here, but if I'm following your explanation-- the new rims are supported by the studs. I don't know exactly how the center looks, as it has the center cap on it when mounted.
Sometimes there's not a good substitute for just mounting stuff and seeing if it works, but you're covering the right details. Hope it works! Post a pic when it's done, I bet it'll look awesome on a vintage trailer!
So I think that the key is if the wheel bolt holes are countersunk to match the bevel on the nuts, then it is stud centric.
