2005 Interstate roof rust

We are seriously considering purchasing a 2005 Interstate. We had the rig checked for the mechanics and all was O.K however, we noticed rust on the roof seam forward of the air conditioner.

Has anyone had this problem and had it repaired. Once repaired, does it stand up or does the rust return. Needless to say, we are very concerned about purchasing this rig and having continual problems with the roof rust.

Thank you for any help/info you could give us.

This is a common problem with Sprinters. Usual fix is sanding and then repainting, assuming we are talking surface rust. Other places to check are the bottom corners of thewindshield , the rear door hinges and inside the rear door shelf. Non of these are serious enough not to buy, just small maintenance issues. Most just chip off the rust, sand and then repaint. A body shop s best. Use this as a buying point! Not all Sprinters have this problem, most of the conversions do not, where a lot of the cargo vans do. zz

sprinter vans...

I am the original owner of a 03 bought new in 04. I think rust may be these rigs achilles heel, as I live in south texas and have several spots on it that are rusting. The windshield area is of particular concern. If you get a scratch or ding you must touch it up or it will rust like a shrimpboat...
