2 Quick (I hope!) Questions

1. What tool/procedure do you all use to remove the remaining 1/4" stub from Olympic rivets?
2. My old '60 Streamline's interior has LOTS of crappy latex (!!!) paint slopped all over. I'm thinking of sand blasting with some media other than sand. Any ideas/suggestions?

I don't know about the latex removal. But I used one of these for the rivets. Olympic HS310-5B Rivet Head Shaver

My recommendation would be not to blast it. I have seen an Airstream that had the interior paint removed by soda blasting. It took the paint off but left an impossible to clean mess. Soda penetrated every crevice and filled the cavity between the skins. The interior skins will have to be removed to clean up all the left over media.

Also if you proceed, be sure to use the lowest possible air pressure. It is easy to warp the thin aluminum as you blast it.

you may want to look into dry-ice blasting no nasty residue to clean up,but it will not be cheap.

A Friend of mine had a Antique Car blasted with plastic pellets for a cleaner and easier on the old metal job. This was in Houston Texas years ago. Maybe a Goggle search might turn up shops that still do that?

We use a rivet shaver as well...but if you have only a few to do, you can do them with a Dremel or Foredom tool - or even a file. Cut the shank down first as close to the rivet head as possible, then shave them. It helps keep the tool from hooking up on the shank &/or jumping off the rivet and marring the skin. There is a "special tool" for trimming the shanks, but we just used a pair of wire cutters - worked fine.
